Mumbai: On Thursday Maharashtra recorded 778 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 6,427, as per official data. 14 coronavirus patients died on Thursday, taking the total to 283.
With increase in cases, Mumbai alone has 4,025 CIVD-19 cases now. The hike was the single-biggest jump for the city since the start of the pandemic. Six more people died taking the toll to 167, officials said.
In Mumbai’s Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum that houses over 8 lakh people, the number of cases rose to 214 and the number of deaths to 13.
The central government has declared the financial capital as one of the hotspots of the novel coronavirus in the nation and various measures have been taken by the officials to contain the spread of the virus in its densely populated slums.

Those who tested positive included Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad. According to a report in Indian Express, he was admitted to hospital on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, the BMC has come out with a mathematical forecast that the city’s cases could hit 70,000-odd in about a month from now.
