The hanging of December 2012 case convicts in Nirbhaya case has been deferred until further orders.
New Delhi| Court postpones Nirbhaya convicts’ death warrants. With less than a day to the scheduled hanging of the four Nirbhaya convicts, another petition was filed today before the Supreme Court. Convict Pawan’s claim of being a minor at the time of 2012 gang-rape and killing was dismissed by the Supreme Court last week. He has asked for a review of that decision last week, even though he had been told that once rejected, an age claim cannot be contested repeatedly.
The stay of the execution was sought on the ground that the convicts have not exhausted all the available legal remedies. Mercy plea of one of the convicts, Vinay sharma, has already been sumbitted to the President of India. The two other convicts Akshay and Pawan haven’t filed mercy plea yet.

Prosecutor Ifran Ahmad while appearing for Tihar Jail authorities argued that application were ‘a complete mockery of justice.’
