Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain issued a statement saying that Dilshad Garden is now a coronavirus-free area owing to Operation SHIELD.
New Delhi| On Friday the Delhi government announced that Operation SHIELD has been successful in containing the spread of COVID-19 in the Dilshad Garden area, which was one of the hotspots of the deadly virus in the capital.
Under a rigorous exercise codenamed “Operation Shield,” the Delhi govt set up 123 medical teams to screen over 15,000 people living in 4,032 houses in the area before declaring it “coronavirus-free”
“We screened every house and all potential coronavirus cases were hospitalised. In the last 10 days no new cases have been revealed in Dilshad Garden,” Mr Jain told NDTV.
Eight cases of the novel coronavirus have been identified from Dilshad Garden as a result of “Operation Shield”.
A 38-year-old woman and her 19-year old son had returned to Delhi from Saudi Arabia after meeting her husband on March 10, they were the first cases of the virus in the area.

No new COVID-29 cases were reported from Dilshad Garden in the last 10 days. The Delhi govt said it would also begin random testing of residents soon.
The Delhi government has come up with a name for its strategy to contain the spread of the highly infectious COVID-19-: Operation SHIELD. As per the government strategy, SHIELD stands for Sealing, Home quarantine, Isolation and tracing, Essential supply, Local sanitation and Door-to-door checks.
CM Arvind Kejriwal said that 21 areas have been identified as containment zones in Delhi and these areas have been sealed, people are not being allowed to enter or exit from these areas.
There are around 25 COVID-19 hotspots in Delhi.
As per the central government’s data, Delhi has registered 720 total COVID-19 cases. Of the total cases, 430 are related to the religious congregation that took place in the Nizamuddin area in March.
