Lockdown 4.0 looms overhead as PM indicated that there will be lesser restrictions in the fourth phase and will be controlled by states.
New Delhi| India is all set to step in Lockdown 4.0 which will vary in degrees, durations and districts, identified by the states post-May 17.
At the fifth virtual meet in the last 50-odd days with Prime Minister, the CMs of many states couldn’t arrive at an agreement on the continuation of lockdown or movement of trains and flight operations.
However, they were united for the necessity of states to gain greater independence to determine the future course of action against the outbreak as well as graded exit from the lockdown.
Prime Minister requested the CMs to submit reports on what next with an evaluation of the situation at the end of the meet. But the meet has definitely given room for the Central government to relinquish command and control over India post-May 17.
“I am of the firm view that the measures needed in the first phase of lockdown were not needed during the 2nd phase and similarly the measures needed in the 3rd Phase are not needed in the fourth,” PM Narendra Modi said.

Prime Minister emphasized on the next big challenge to the states that want more independence. “Our biggest challenge will be to assure the novel coronavirus doesn’t spread to villages in spite of relaxations. The states which have been lax in implementing the lockdown have created more difficulties,” PM said.
The total cases in India surged to 70,756 including over 21,000 cured/discharged or migrated and 2,293 deaths amid lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19.
87 fatalities were registered in the past 24 hours. A staggering 3,500 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.
