Rakesh Tikait Returns Home Today After Successful Protest, Leading To Withdrawal Of Three Farm Laws

Ghazipur: After protesting for 383 days, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) national spokesperson Rakesh Tikait on December 15 returns home. He will quit the Ghazipur border on Wednesday. Preparations are in full swing for a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Sisauli in Uttar Pradesh.

For the past year, the farmers have been protesting for the withdrawal of three farm laws, MSP, and other issues being faced by them. The farmers and government have come to a mutual decision and have solved all the issues faced by farmers.

On November 19 Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made an announcement and repealed all three farm laws.

For the past year, Rakesh Tikait had been camped alongside hundreds of other farmers at Delhi’s Ghazipur border to demand the repeal of the Centre’s three contentious farm laws. The legislation was finally withdrawn in Parliament earlier this month and the umbrella body of farmers’ unions, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), reached an agreement with the government on other longstanding demands.

Having secured this landmark victory, the farmers’ agitation was called off and those who had been stationed at Delhi’s Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders could finally return home. Rakesh Tikait, one of the most recognizable faces of the farmers’ movement, had said the Ghazipur border would be cleared out by December 16.

Today, he will bid farewell to Ghazipur and make his way back home.

A havan was performed at the Ghazipur border, after which Tikait and his contingent of supporters moved out at 9 am. They will reach Sisauli in UP’s Muzaffarnagar district via Modinagar, Meerut, Daurala toll plaza, and Mansoorpur.

BKU media in-charge Dharmendra Malik said, “We have planned a grand welcome for Rakesh Tikait. Preparations for reception and Bhandara/langar have been completed at hundreds of places from Ghazipur to Sisauli.”
