Bail Conditions For Senthil Balaji: He must appear before (arresting officials) twice a week, not tamper with evidence or witnesses, and must surrender his passport.

DMK leader and former minister Senthil Balaji was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Thursday in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam.

A bench comprising Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Augustine George Marsh flagged his lengthy imprisonment and the delay in a trial, and said these could not go together.

The top court said: “What we have said is stringent and higher threshold of bail and delay in prosecution cannot go together.”

The 48-year-old politician has been in jail since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in June 2023. The SC, in November last year, refused to hear a bail plea, citing his health, noting it was not satisfied with his arguments and that his condition could be cured with medicines.

The bail conditions set for Senthil Balaji are as follows: He must appear before the arresting officials twice a week, he must not tamper with evidence or witnesses, and he must surrender his passport.
