According to reports, the Union Home Ministry may release a notification tonight to enforce the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Passed by Parliament in December 2019 amid nationwide protests and opposition resistance, the CAA introduces religion as a criterion for citizenship. The act enables the government to confer Indian nationality upon non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before 2015.
