Indian Police Foundation Condemns Release Of Bilkis Bano Convicts

11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang rape and massacre that occurred, during the 2002 Godhra riots sentenced to life imprisonment walked out of Godhra sub-jail on Monday after the Gujarat government freed them under its remission policy, according to an official.

The Indian Police Foundation (IPF), which is an independent think tank bringing together, police & citizen stakeholders for reform &transformation of police. based on Rule of Law, according to their Twitter bio, has questioned the release of the 11 convicts of the Bilkis Bano Case. It has also called the move legally wrong, morally numbing and socially destructive.

“The release of 11 convicts serving life for gangrape & massmurder is legally wrong, morally numbing and socially destructive.”

“Where’s the spirit of the 2012 civil society campaign on women’s safety following Nirbhaya, Justice JS Verma’s work & all the efforts of the police?” the tweet read.
