As flood situations worsen in Assam, political instability ensues.
Guwahati: Lashing out at PM Modi, Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that the Prime Minister and BJP party officials must visit flood-devastated villages of Assam in lieu of overthrowing the Shiv Sena administration in Maharashtra.
“If there’s a crisis, it’s that of floods. BJP has gone blind for power. There are floods in Assam. The PM should visit the state and announce special package, but he’s busy toppling Maharashtra government, or in Gujarat elections…Only power is everything for BJP,” said Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MP.
The demonstrations began today morning when TMC protestors assembled at the hotel where the rebel MLA camp was hosted by the BJP. Protestors allegedly accused the ruling party of hosting the stay of the legislators in 5-star hotels and funding the mutiny in Maharashtra, when a single rupee or visit was not allotted to flood-struck villages in Assam.
Reports from official sources suggested that 41 lakh people from 34 districts suffered from the detrimental weather conditions experienced in the state this week.
As the flood worsened in the Karimganj district this week, water from the Kushiyara, Longai, and Singla rivers continued to be above danger level. Reports argued that the casualty count went up to 1.34 lakh in the district alone.
