Anti-CAA protests: FIR filed against 10,000 unknown AMU students

On December 15, students of AMU had staged a protest against the AmendedCitizenship Act (CAA) and the NRC which later turned into a clash between students and Police.

 

 

Lucknow| In a crackdown on students protestors, the Uttar Pradesh police has booked several students that took part in the demonstrations on December 15 at Aligarh Muslim University against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Police have registered a case of violence against 10,000 unknown students of the university. On December 15, the University Campus staged a protest against the revised Citizenship Act (CAA) and the NRC. During this, there was an intense clash between the students and the police for a long time.

Former student union president of Aligarh Muslim University, Salman Imtiaz, alleged that the police had beaten up the students on the 15th, leaving several students injured. Later, Uttar Pradesh Police tweeted a video from their Twitter handle. In this tweet, the police wrote, ‘We are already saying that the AMU gate was not broken by a security agency. This video confirms this. ‘ It is seen in the video that the students are very angry and want to come out of the gate at any cost.

Reportedly, the police also used tear gas shells to bring the protestors under control. A student’s hand was also cut during this. Meanwhile, teachers’ association of Aligarh Muslim University has demanded a judicial inquiry into the clash between police and students last week. The teachers’ union also demanded that the ‘false cases’ filed against the students of the university be withdrawn immediately and the guilty policemen should be punished according to the law.

A candle march was taken out on campus on December 25 to show solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia and AMU who were victims of police action. During this period, 1200 unidentified people have registered a case. Police said that the case has been registered in violation of the prohibitory orders.
