โWhatever Digvijaya Singh ji said are his personal views, but the views of the party are above his views,โ said Rahul Gandhi when asked about Congress leaderโs Surgical Strike comment.
Jammu| Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday distanced himself from the statement of Congress leader Digvijay Singh. He said that he never raised questions on the bravery of the army. He said that the statement made by Digvijaya Singh is his personal opinion and he does not agree with it. Earlier, Congress Communication head Jairam Ramesh had distanced the party from the comments made by former MP CM. Singh, yesterday stoked a controversy saying that the Modi govt never gave a proof of Surgical Strike in parliament.
This morning when reporters tried to speak to Singh, Jairam Ramesh was seen rushing in and pushing Digvijaya Singh away from media. He stopped him from speaking to the press.
โCompletely disagree with Digvijayโs statementโ: Rahul Gandhi
Answering a question from the media, during his interaction, Rahul Gandhi said, โWhen we were fighting with the British, the people of BJP-Sangh were with them. Their leaders gave the concept of two countries.โ He added, โAs far as Digvijaya jiโs statement is concerned. We completely disagree with what he said on the surgical strike. We have full faith in our army. If the army does something then there is no need to give proof. I completely disagree with Digvijaya Singhโs statement. Personally, I believe that whatever Digvijaya ji said is his personal opinion. The Congress party also does not agree with this.

โCongress A Democratic Partyโ
Rahul was further asked that while the party has distanced itself from Digvijaya Singhโs statement, why no action is taken against him. Responding to this, Rahul said that Congress is a Democratic Party and there is no dictatorship. โWe do not believe in running the party by suppressing the voice of others. Here people are allowed to speak their mind, no matter how different it may be from the ideology of the party. Whatever Digvijaya ji said are his personal views, but the views of the party are above his views. The views of the party are formed from the discussions within the party. I want to assure you that his views are completely different from the ideology of the party,โ he said.
Media questions Digvijaya Singh, Angry Jairam Ramesh intervenes
In Jammu, during the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Tuesday, Congress media head Jairam Ramesh seemed visibly angry when Congress leader Digvijay Singh was asked a question. Media was questioning Digvijaya Singh on his statement on surgical strike. In the meantime, Jairam Ramesh swooped in and said โ โEnough is enough. You guys let us go. We have answered all the questions. You go to the Prime Minister and ask questions.โ
Digvijaya Singh had earlier said that the government never gave proof of surgical strike. When the controversy escalated, he later also clarified that his statement was not meant as a disrespect for the Indian Army.
