BJP Promises India’s highest Civilian Award- Bharat Ratna for Savarkar in its Maharashtra Manifesto

Earlier last month Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray demanded the country’s highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna for Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

 

Mumbai| Today the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its manifesto for the upcoming assembly election in Haryana. The manifesto was launched by National Executive Chairman JP Nadda and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mumbai’s Rangsharada auditorium.

The BJP, in its poll manifesto, termed as a ‘Sankalp Patra’, demanded Bharat Ratna for social reformer Jyotiba Phule, his wife Savitribai Phule and Veer Savarkar.

BJP and RSS have always praised Savarkar’s ideology and considered him as the Hindu iconic leader. However, Savarkar’s role in the Indian freedom struggle has always been contentious. A few days back in Delhi University Congress Student Union NSUI blackened Idol of Savarkar which was brought by ABVP – BJP student Union.

Earlier last month Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray demanded the country’s highest civilian award – Bharat Ratna – for Hindutva poster boy Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, better known Veer Savarkar.

Thackeray also said Pakistan would not have been created if Savarkar had become India’s first Prime Minister.
