Congress announces candidate for Ampati bye-election in Mehghalaya

The Congress party on Saturday announced its candidate for the ensuing bye-election for the Ampati Constituency in Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya.

Miani Dalbot Shira, daughter of former CM Mukul Sangma will contest as Congress candidate in the upcoming bye-election.

Former chief minister Mukul Sangma’s 27-year-old daughter Miani D Shira will contest against former school teacher and NPP’s loyalist Clement G Momin.

Mukul Sangma, Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Assembly, had won from two seats – Ampati and Songsak – in the February 27 assembly election. The senior Congress leader retained the Songsak seat in East Garo Hills district and vacated Ampati, from where he had been elected for six consecutive times.
