‘Speech came from heart’; Mahua Moitra rejects plagiarism allegations

New Delhi | Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra who became internet famous after her first speech in Lok Sabha has denied allegations that her viral speech was plagiarised.

Moitra responding to the allegations said that the speech came from her heart and rather blamed the BJP’s troll army for propagating the charges to shield actual problems. Moitra in an issued statement said,” Plagiarism is when one does not disclose one’s source. My source as mentioned categorically in my speech was the poster from the Holocaust Museum created by the political scientist Dr. Laurence W. Brit pointing out the 14 signs of early fascism. I found 7 signs relevant to India and spoke at length about each of them.”

Earlier speaking to media on allegations that her maiden speech in Parliament was plagiarized, Moitra quoted American commentator Martin Longman’s tweet “right-wing a**holes seem to be similar in every country.” Moitra also shared the tweet on her twitter handle tagging Zee News Editor in Chief Sudhir Chaudhary who accused her of plagiarism.

“My speech came from the heart and every Indian who has shared it did so from their heart,” PTI quoted Moitra as saying. “The hits were organic, not BOT controlled. I repeat…. ‘Bandhney mujhey tu aaya hai. zanjeer badi kya laya hai’ (you have come to chain me, are your shackles long enough)?”
