MJ Akbar terms #MeToo allegations false and fabricated; calls for legal actions

New Delhi | Union Minister of External Affairs (States) MJ Akbar who is facing an allegation of sexual harassment on Sunday termed the accusations false and baseless.

Speaking to media agency ANI, the former Journalist said, “Accusation without evidence has become a viral fever among some sections.” He further added that “Whatever be the case, now that I have returned, my lawyers will look into these wild and baseless allegations in order to decide our future course of legal action.”


Responding to his silence over the allegations, the Union Minister clarified,” The allegations of misconduct made against me are false and fabricated, spiced up by innuendo and malice. I could not reply earlier as I was on an official tour abroad.”

Questioning the timing of these allegations, MJ Akbar said its an attempt to damage his reputation and goodwill. He said,” Why has this storm risen a few months before a general election? Is there an agenda? You be the judge. These false, baseless and wild allegations have caused irreparable damage to my reputation and goodwill.”

Akbar calling for a legal action against the allegations said, “Lies do not have legs, but they do contain poison, which can be whipped into a frenzy. This is deeply distressing. I will be taking appropriate legal action.”

Minister of State of External Affairs MJ Akbar was accused of sexual harassment various women journalist in the ongoing #MeToo campaign during his tenure as Editor of various newspaper. Opposition parties cornered the Union government demanding Akbar’s resignation.
