MP Crisis: “Wish Him Well Under Modi-Shah”: Digvijaya Singh On Jyotiraditya Scindia

Will not Contest Digvijay

Congress treated both the Scindia leaders with great respect & gave them both ministerial berths. So I do feel very sad. He has been one of us, said Singh.

New Delhi| Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday avoided questions on the exact number of MLAs supporting the party in Madhya Pradesh amid a political crisis triggered by the resignation of at least 20 MLAs including Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Repeating his allegation that the BJP was trying to destabilise the Congress-led government, Singh told reporters that the BJP had arranged three chartered planes for Bengaluru on Monday to fly out some MLAs loyal to Scindia.

“We want to know why Bengaluru is used every time to destabilise governments?” he questioned.

He said an atmosphere of uneasiness has been prevailing in the BJP since the Kamal Nath government started cracking a whip on various mafias.

“We (the state government) are exposing Vyapam scam, e-tendering scam, Madhyam scam. In the honey-trap case, BJP men were found to be involved. This will be exposed,” he said.

“The fact is that Jyotiraditya was negotiating with the BJP for the past three months. Sources told us that he was directly in touch with Amit Shah but leaders of the party from Guna and Datia were opposing his entry. That is why he (Jyotiraditya) was not given the go-ahead to quit. The BJP leaders said that we can break the Congress in the state without Jyotiraditya and when they failed, Amit Shah stepped in himself. This is what has been going on for the past three months,” said Digvijaya Singh to the Indian Express.

” There will be surprises when the floor test happens, maybe on March 18. That is all I can tell you at this stage. And let me tell you I admire the grit and determination that Kamal Nath has shown through all this,” he said.

On Tuesday, Mr Scindia resigned from the Congress and shot off a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, saying “it is now time for me to move on”. He also wrote: “To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia had reportedly been unhappy with the Congress leadership for about a year. Once close to the Gandhi family, he lost the race for chief ministership to Kamal Nath in 2018, when the party won the Madhya Pradesh election because he could show the support of only 23 MLAs.
