P Chidambaram’s lawyer has written to the CBI stating, “Your notice fails to mention the provision of law under which my client has been issued a notice to appear within 2 hours.”
New Delhi| Responding to the CBI notice asking P Chidambaram to appear before the probe team within two hours, the former Finance Minister’s lawyer has written to the agency. In his letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation team, Arshdeep Singh Khurana has asked under what law the CBI is asking Chidambaram to appear for the probe.
The letter comes in response to CBI notice pasted outside Chidambaram’s house in New Delhi’s Jorbagh. Khurana wrote, “I am instructed to state that your notice fails to mention the provision of law under which my client has been issued a notice to appear within 2 hours.” He further mentioned that his client is merely exercising his lawful rights. “My client had approached the Supreme Court on August 20 seeking urgent reliefs in respect of the order dismissing his anticipatory bail,” he mentioned.

Delhi High Court Denies Bail
The chances of Chidambaram’s arrest increased after the Delhi High Court denied him protection from the arrest. P Chidambaram had sought a stay on the arrest for three days. However, the Delhi High court judge said that he being a member of parliament or a lawyer will not have any consideration in the case. Justice Sunil Gaur in his harsh judgement said that the facts reveal that he is not only a key conspirator but also a “kingpin” of the scam.
Chidambaram goes incommunicado
An hour after CBI visit, a team of Enforcement Directorate too arrived at the location at 7.30 PM. However, P Chidambaram is untraceable. His lawyer and senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that Chidambaram was with him and both were discussing the case at around 6.30 on Tuesday evening. He said that the two were together for around two hours.
