With top leaders Priyanka Gandhi, Sachin Pilot and other MP’s in attendance congress commences sit in.
New Delhi: Congress MPs and leaders today at Jantar Mantar commenced their ‘Satyagyaha’ expressing solidarity to the youth of the nation currently appealing to the stubborn military recruitment scheme ‘Agnipath’.
The government “must not be stubborn’ said Congress leader Sachin Pilot. The sit-in that commenced early today aims at firing strong opposition to the freshly launched Agnipath scheme.
The recruitment scheme that aims at cutting down the defence budget, was dragged by the congress leader Pilot who questioned the expenditure of Rs 20,000 crore the government allotted to the Central Vista Project and the Rs 8,400 crore spent on the two-custom B777 aircrafts made for the PM and other officials.
Sharing his thoughts Pilot added, “If the government wanted to reduce pension bills, then there were other ways too. The two planes bought for the Prime Minister could have been avoided. The government shouldn’t have built the Central Vista. The way the government had to take back the farm laws government, it will have to take back the Agnipath Scheme,”.
The Congress opposition will reportedly pull all stops during the ‘Satyagyaha ’to force the ruling party to pressure a stalemate in reverting the military recruitment scheme.
Leader Priyanka Gandhi added, “This scheme will kill the youth of the country, will finish Army.” Urging the youth to recognise “fake nationalists”.
The Agnipath scheme declared on June 14, provides for employment to the youth of the country in the Armed services but on draconian conditions that do not ensure pension, provision or stable employment tenure.
The policy currently in hot water has been met with violent protests and demonstrations across the country. The government in a move to up ease the recruits earlier this week declared provisions for job reservation.
The Home ministry has agreed for job reservations in several defence undertakings and agreed to move the age upper limit from 21-23 in a bid to push the policy forward.
