AAP was confident that its performance in health and education sectors and free power and water to the people will see it through
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi has won by thumping majority — managed 63 seats– building on its early morning surge as the counting of votes progressed. The BJP predicted for around 55 seats, might end up with less than 10 – an outcome many opposition leaders have hailed as a defeat of divisive politics. The campaign for Delhi was highly polarised, riddled with violence and hate speeches. The BJP had banked on the anti-CAA protests at Shaheen Bagh for a surge. AAP was confident that its performance in health and education sectors and free power and water to the people will see it through.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Aam Aadmi Party’s victory signaled the victory of a “new kind of politics”. “People of Delhi have given a message that they will vote for schools, mohalla clinics, 24-hour electricity, and free water. This is a great message for the country,” he said, addressing a huge crowd at the AAP office.
Kejriwal also delivered on his promise to visit the Hanuman Mandir at the heart of the city. “Today is Tuesday, Hanuman-ji’s day. Hanumanji has showered national capital with blessings,” said Delhi CM, who was mocked by the BJP after he recited verses in praise of Lord Hanuman on live television. Kejriwal said he would visit the temple after the poll result.
He added “Dilli walon ghazab kar diya aap logon ne! I love you… I thank the people of Delhi for believing in AAP for the third time. This the victory of the people who consider me as their son and voted for us.
“This is a new kind of politics. It is a welcome message for India. This politics will lead us to the 21st century. This is not the victory of Delhi, but of entire mother India,” Kejriwal said. On a personal note, he also told the gathering that it is his wife’s birthday. The announcement was received with a thunderous response from AAP supporters.
The Delhi election results declared today, AAP is surly wining. According to the report, the party was leading on 63 seats, while BJP was leading on seven. The Congress party did not manage to win a single seat.
