“Don’t be in euphoria of govt formation”: NCP leader Jayant Patil to workers

Jayant Patil said, “There are a lot of activities happening on the govt formation front. But it is not wise to pin hopes on that.”

Mumbai| Amidst the confusion over government formation in Maharashtra an ambiguous statement from NCP state president Jayant Patil is creating a stir. The NCP, Congress and ShivSena are in talks with each other over government formation. The parties are devising a Common Minimum Programme. The representatives of the parties were to meet Maharashtra governor on Sunday but it was delayed. Today, Sharad Pawar-NCP chief is in Delhi to meet Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi after which we can expect a final word on the alliance.

Meanwhile, Jayant Patil addressing party workers at a small corner meeting at Islampur said that they shouldn’t be in a euphoria that government will be formed. He also asked them to not get demotivated if the government is not formed. The statement has led us to question if all is not well between the Sena, NCP and Congress.

Jayant Patil said, “There are a lot of activities happening on the govt formation front. But it is not wise to pin hopes on that. Today, Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi will meet. After that, we will make a decision.” He added, “Tomorrow I might have to go to Delhi. I will attend meeting with Congress office-bearers. You shouldn’t believe anything in politics. Workers shouldn’t get demotivated if nothing happens as they expect. On the other hand, they shouldn’t get too happy if what they expect, happens. If nothing happens according to your will (Govt formation), we will work as strong opposition.”

His statement comes at a time when NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s claim left everyone stunned today. When asked about government formation in the state, Pawar said that reporters should ask about govt formation to BJP-ShivSena.

The two parties fell out after Lok Sabha election results when ShivSena demanded 50:50 formula for CM post. The BJP has maintained that no such deal was struck between the two parties.
