Slamming the Modi government’s strategies of relaxing the lockdown, Rahul said, “India is the only country in the world which is removing lockdown when the virus is exponentially rising.”
New Delhi| Congress leader Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on the central government for its decision to continue the nation-wide lockdown and strategy to handle the Covid-19 crisis. Gandhi also stressed that the lockdown in India has failed since the coronavirus cases have spiked during this period.
Rahul Gandhi was talking to journalists in a virtual press conference held today. He said, “The lockdown in India has failed. Four stages of lockdown have not given the result that the Prime Minister expected.”
Slamming the Modi government’s strategies of relaxing the lockdown, Rahul said, “India is the only country in the world which is removing lockdown when the virus is exponentially rising.”
“PM and his entire advisory staff claimed coronavirus cases will come down, but this has not happened,” he further added.
India has so far recorded almost 1.45 lakh cases of coronavirus with nearly 7,000 cases on Monday alone, the highest ever spike in the number of Covid-19 cases. 4,167 people have so far succumbed to the infectious virus.
“I want to ask PM Modi, what is the strategy of the government,” Rahul Gandhi asked, adding, “They are thinking about curbing the disease, supporting migrants and supporting MSMEs.”
“Now that the lockdown has failed, we need to know the government’s strategy on the next step. The Centre must divulge its Plan B,” the Congress leader said.
“Congress is running some states. We are giving direct cash to the poor to help them survive in this crisis. We are not getting the central government’s support,” Gandhi added.
“Now it’s becoming difficult to run the government without support. Congress governments are supporting farmers, migrants, we are giving cash, but our states are not getting support from the Centre,” Rahul said blaming the centre for not extending the help to its state governments.
