Bengaluru Building Collapse: 5 Killed, 13 Rescued, Rescue Operations Ongoing

An under-construction building collapsed in northern Bengaluru, killing five people and leaving 13 injured. The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Karnataka. According to police, rescue operations are ongoing, and officials believe two or three people are still trapped under the debris.

The incident happened in Hennur, Babusapalya, due to heavy rainfall in the area. However, officials say the collapse occurred due to poor construction and sub-standard materials, and not the rain.

The whole incident was captured on CCTV showing the seven-storey building’s collapse. According to officials, the building had permission to have only four floors. Experts found thinner pillar rods and possible improper cement usage.

Two rescue vans were deployed, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Five others were moved to Hosmat Hospital in the city. Illegal activities at the site are under investigation.

According to ANI, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar reacting to the incident said “As per the information I got, 21 labourers were present. A 26-year-old Arman’s body was recovered. In a day, 26 people work here”.

Confronted With ‘Himalayan Yogi’, Fmr NSE Chief Refused To Recognise Him: CBI

Chitra Ramkrishna, the Former National Stock Exchange (NSE) chief who was arrested last night by the CBI, was confronted with her former aide Anand Subramanian, but she refused to recognise him, the investigation agency has informed the court.

Seeking 14-day custody of Chitra Ramkrishna, who has been arrested in a case of market manipulation, the CBI said: “We have recovered 2,500 email exchanges between the accused.”

While arguing that she had been questioned for eight days, Ms Ramkrishna’s lawyer said she appeared before the CBI on Saturday and Sunday, even after the court rejected her request for protection from arrest.

“She gave evasive answers and that’s why we had to arrest her. We need to confront her with the evidence,” the CBI said.

Market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), in its report, had accused Ms Ramkrishna of taking decisions under the influence of a yogi living in the Himalayas.

Recently, the CBI sources had revealed that Anand Subramanian, the former Chief Operating Officer of the NSE, was the “yogi” who communicated with Chitra Ramkrishna through email.

Among many other decisions, appointment of Mr Subramaniam was also done by Ms Ramkrishna under the so-called yogi’s influence. She shared confidential information with him related to the NSE from her mail id rchitra@icloud.com to rigyajursama@outlook.com between 2013 and 2016, CBI sources say.
