Dr. Abraham Mathai, chairman of the Harmony Foundation & former Vice-Chairman, Minorities Commission on Monday thanked the Ahmednagar Police for assisting the Harmony foundation for assisting in rescuing an 18-year-old trafficked girl.

“The successful rescuing of trafficked people are a testament to the fact that while evil people lurk amidst us who carry forth such heinous crimes, the world also has those who give their heart and soul to rescue people who fall victim to the vicious crime of trafficking,” he said.

“World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30 to advance and defend the rights of those who are trafficked, was observed worldwide yesterday and it is really satisfying to be a part of a mission that seeks to gradually eradicate this horrific crime and restore the lost hope of freedom in the victims of trafficking as this day is celebrated to raise awareness about it and empathize with the victims,” the press release said.

In light of the aforesaid, we would like to share the good news of the successful rescue of a trafficking victim. Today, our NGO partner Shyam Kamble was assisted by DySP Sandip Mitake and his team in Ahmednagar to rescue an 18-year-old trafficked girl. After being rescued, the girl described in great detail how her unfortunate situation came to be, along with other significant details like the name of her abductors, etc, the press release read.

Describing the case he said, The girl was a minor when she was trafficked, and for the past two years, four different traffickers forced her into this despicable flesh trade. Her previous medical records collected by the police from the hospital where she was regularly treated, clearly show that she was a minor when she was trafficked.

Crediting the police for tracking the perpetrators he said fortunately, the police have been able to arrest one female and two male traffickers and are on the lookout for the fourth male trafficker. While the rescue journey is demanding and tiring, when we saw the joy on the girl’s face, it gave us immense contentment and revived our zeal to keep going and fight this evil that persists in our society. Rescuing is a team effort, and we are immensely proud of the police team led by DySP Sandip Mitake who has done a commendable job in this case.

The Press release in its conclusion said We continue to work toward our goal of freeing the unfortunate victims of this cruel cycle of trafficking, and each successful rescue gives us the willpower to carry out our task with more compassion and zeal.
