Congress leader Karan Singh suggests a new formula to run the party post Rahul’s resignation

Karan Singh said, “The longer the present uncertainty remains the more will our voters and workers around the country be demoralized.”

New Delhi| It has been more than a month since former Congress President Rahul Gandhi resigned from his post. However, the party hasn’t yet found any face to replace him. ‘Aghast’ at this confusion over Rahul Gandhi’s successor, party leader Karan Singh has proposed new formula.

In a statement, Karan Singh said that the party instead of honoring his decision wasted a month in pleading him to take back his resignation. He added that being a man of integrity, he shouldn’t have been pressurized to do so.

He also criticized the party for not having a new president even after six weeks have passed. Karan Singh, however, has suggested a new measure to tackle the situation.

Karan Singh’s formula:

Karan Singh in his letter said that the party needs to convene a meeting of Congress Working Committee. This committee will be headed by former Prime minister of India Manmohan Singh. The party should take necessary decisions including the selection of an interim chief until the next president is elected.

He further said that instead of having only one president looking after the entire party, there should be four working presidents and vice presidents. Karan Singh said that these four Working presidents will look after the North, South, East, and West Zone respectively. He said this will enable younger people to get into the position of authority.

“The longer the present uncertainty remains the more will our voters and workers around the country be demoralized. The negative cycle must be reversed before it is too late,” Karan Singh said.

Congress’ search for new President:

On May 25, two days after Congress party’s brutal defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi who was driving the party’s campaign resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation in the CWC meeting but the members rejected it. He also had expressed displeasure over party members and office bearers not taking the responsibility of the defeat.

Last week, he made his resignation official by posting a letter on Twitter. In the letter, he said that the party wanted him to nominate his successor but he refused to do so. The party has been searching for a new face to replace Gandhi since last one month. The front runners of the post are Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot among the younger lot and Ashok Gehlot, Sushilkumar Shinde, etc from the old guards.
